June 11 is one of the most important days for Albanian football, because on this date one of the most culminating moments was recorded, such as the historic participation in the finals of a European championship.
Ten years after the historic participation, FSHF TV brings a documentary with the stories and emotions of the generation that wrote the most important page of Albanian football. On the first double-digit anniversary of Euro 2016, the project takes us back in time to the journey of the National Team towards France, from the most difficult moments to the success that united Albanians everywhere in the world, with the memories of a summer that remains unforgettable.
The documentary includes exclusive testimonies from the main protagonists of that historic adventure. The President of the Albanian Football Association, Armand Duka, dwells on the challenges that accompanied the journey towards the first qualification in a major tournament, but also on the importance and impact that the passage to the final phase of the most important continental competition had. The coach of the time, Gianni De Biasi, recounts the philosophy that built a competitive and united team, while also revealing some of the most difficult moments that accompanied him during that period, from the choice to leave four players out of the team, leaving captain Lorik Cana on the bench against Romania to the conflict he had with Shkëlzen Gashi and Taulant Xhaka after the match with Switzerland.
A special place is also occupied by the memories of former captain Lorik Cana, a symbol of that team and one of the most beloved figures for the red and black fans, although his journey to Euro 2016 was not what he had dreamed of. Through his stories, but also those of former players Andi Lila and Taulant Xhaka, the audience will have the opportunity to discover the behind-the-scenes, the emotions of the locker room and the sacrifices that accompanied that extraordinary journey.
Part of the documentary is also Armando Sadiku, the author of Albania's first and only goal in the European Championship "France 2016". The goal against Romania, which gave the National Team its first victory in a European Championship, is brought back through the memories of the striker himself, as one of the most important moments in the history of Albanian sports. The documentary also features Elseid Hysaj, one of the protagonists of that team, who shares the emotions of representing the country on the biggest continental stage, as he took the captain's armband for the first time in the match 10 years ago against Switzerland, although at the time he was only 22 years old.
The audience will have the opportunity to recall the atmosphere that prevailed among the fans, the extraordinary enthusiasm and the impact that qualification had on increasing confidence in Albanian football.
This documentary is not just a throwback to the results and matches of a decade ago, but a tribute to a generation that made history and inspired millions of Albanians. Ten years later, Euro 2016 remains one of the proudest chapters of our sport, while the protagonists' stories remind us that some dreams, when believed in strongly, can become reality.
