Economic expert Eduart Gjokutaj, invited to News24, has raised the alarm about the deepening economic inequality in Albania, emphasizing that the real figures are more worrying than those reflected in official statistics.
According to him, although at first glance it seems that there is a kind of redistribution, in-depth analysis shows a strong concentration of capital and a pronounced weakness of budgetary mechanisms for the distribution of income.
"It turns out that we have a greater income inequality than what is expressed in statistics, as well as a concentration of national wealth. Profits are not distributed proportionally, but are accumulated in certain hands and segments that are related to economic, political privileges or clientelistic connections," said Gjokutaj.
One of the most significant indicators, according to him, is the distribution of savings in bank deposits. He emphasized that about 7% of Albanians – approximately 12-13 thousand individuals – own over 93% of total assets in deposits, while 93% of the population shares the remaining portion.
"This shows a very deep division and a market that does not operate on the principle of fair distribution of capital," the expert concluded.
