The Ioannina anti-drug unit managed to deal a blow to drug trafficking, after an operation that resulted in the arrest of an Albanian and the seizure of a quantity of 167 kilograms of marijuana.
It all started this morning, when police officers from the Criminal Investigation and Prosecution Sub-Directorate spotted a suspicious vehicle with what appeared to be fake Ukrainian license plates, moving in the Konica area towards Kozani.
When they tried to signal him to stop, the driver sped away at breakneck speed. The Albanian did not hesitate to perform dangerous maneuvers, driving the vehicle in the opposite direction for a long time, putting passing drivers in immediate danger.
A search inside the vehicle revealed 28 packages containing 167 kg 200 grams of marijuana, which were placed in the cabin and in the trunk.
Since September, Greek police have seized around 1 ton of marijuana suspected of coming from Albania. Cases have been identified in Igoumenitsa by land and sea, as well as in Ioannina, Thessaloniki and Kos.
