A statue breaks into pieces, wanting to break the world it signifies along with the silhouette of the heavy portrait. We are on a theater stage and, as in a theater, metaphors are not lacking either outside of it. The statue fell but not the mindset that kept it standing. Questions about the fall of symbols and experiences of transformation are the essence of the “Days of Memory” organized by “IDMC” and “KAS”. The curtain was raised with a documentary theater based on the novel “Manual trzim” by Jonila Godole.
Further, a conference brought together European experiences in dealing with the past and continuing the mindset, in new forms but with the same essence. Jonila Godole gives her perspective.
Afrim Krasniqi was decorated as a December student who demanded the fall of the communist regime, but the document that gave him the title carried all the communist symbols and, according to him, this illustrates Albania in transition, which values one side without removing the symbols of the other side.
The Days of Remembrance are an effort to make society reflect and rediscover its role in democratic and state-forming processes.
