A 65-year-old man has been arrested in the act in Mirdita, suspected of intentionally causing fires in the Gziq village area.

Mirdita police finalized the operation codenamed "Piromania", after a three-day investigation. According to the blue uniforms, the operation was based on information obtained in the operational route, according to which 65-year-old Pashk Marku, a resident of the village of Gziq, was suspected of being involved in deliberate arson.

At the time of his arrest, the 65-year-old had just lit three fires in the village of Gziq. As a result, the flames engulfed a forest area, while the intervention of the fire services, in cooperation with the Mirdita Police, made it possible to immediately bring the fires under control.

The arrested person is also suspected of being the author of several other cases of arson that occurred earlier in the territory of the Mirdita Municipality.

The 65-year-old is accused of the criminal offenses of "Destruction of property by fire" and "Destruction of forests and the forest environment by fire."

Meanwhile, Criminal Investigation specialists at the Mirdita Police Station, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, continue investigations to fully document other cases for which he is suspected of being the perpetrator.
