A Turkish citizen declared internationally wanted has been detained by Albanian authorities at Rinas airport, while attempting to enter the territory of the Republic of Albania. According to the official announcement, the detention was carried out by the Regional Anti-Terrorism Unit in Tirana, in cooperation with the Border Police and international partners, following the exchange of operational information and increased controls at the country's entry and exit points.
The detainee has been identified as Ibrahim Karaoğlu, 67, who is internationally wanted for the criminal offenses of "attempts to overthrow the constitutional order" and "membership in an armed terrorist organization," according to Turkish criminal legislation.
POLICE NOTICE
A citizen who was internationally wanted for attempting to overthrow the constitutional order and participating in an armed terrorist organization is detained by the Regional Anti-Terrorism Unit, Tirana.
The Turkish citizen was stopped while attempting to enter the Republic of Albania through the Rinas BCP.
As a result of the coordination of information and operational actions, between specialists of the Regional Anti-Terrorism Unit, Tirana, in the Investigation Sector of the Anti-Terrorism Directorate, with Turkish partners, as well as as a result of the intensification of controls and verifications at entry/exit, by the Rinas Border Police services, with the objective of preventing the illegal movement of internationally wanted citizens, who intend to hide from justice in the countries where they have committed criminal offenses, the Turkish citizen, declared internationally wanted, was stopped at the entrance to the Republic of Albania:
– Ibrahim Karaoglu, 67 years old.
The detention of this citizen was carried out pursuant to the prosecutor's order, issued on 08.08.2017, pursuant to the decision of the Court of the Judicial District, Tirana, for the assignment of the security measure "Arrest in prison", with the aim of extradition, for citizen IK, for the criminal offenses "Attempt to overthrow the constitutional order" and "Membership in an armed terrorist organization", provided for by Turkish criminal legislation.
The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Tirana, for further actions, in function of the procedure for the extradition of this citizen.
