A mother from Vlorë is experiencing the greatest pain that a parent can bear. After many misfortunes in life, today she is fighting for the most precious thing she has, the life of her daughter, Ariola, who is in Australia and is facing advanced ovarian cancer, which has seriously endangered her life. For 7 years, mother and daughter have not hugged. Today, when Ariola needs her mother more than ever, the disease has hit her hard and the treatments are extremely expensive. She cannot work, she is far from her family and every day is a battle for survival.
Her mother is trying to travel to Australia so as not to leave her alone in this struggle between life and death. But the costs of treatment, living and travel are unaffordable for the family. Today, it is not how much we give that matters, but the fact that we come together to save a life. In a heartfelt confession for the show “With an Open Heart” on News24 of moderator and author Evis Ahmeti, the mother appeals for help from Albanians.
"The doctors said we would do the impossible. Hope is the last to die. She will undergo radiation. They wanted to start chemotherapy. But her body couldn't handle it and started radiation. Because she doesn't eat, because she only vomits, they are doing radiation to her bones. We can't afford anything. She even paid her lawyer for the papers with her savings. She told me that if she was out of work for 1 day, she wouldn't be able to cope. She has spent all her savings. I am very bad. Psychologically, I am zero, because I can't cope. I haven't seen her for 8 years. I have been sick. I have overcome the danger, but this with Arjola has completely knocked me down. It's not just the financial side that we can't help her, but because we can't be near her. She still says; I'm going through the flu and nothing else. She gives us more courage than we do her. We are all bad. I have a daughter who is married, because she was born just now. We couldn't tell her as soon as she was born. What can I tell you. The girl gave birth to a boy, she had a girl before. What's worse, she thought about her sister who was pregnant. She cares about us, she doesn't think about her health. She wants us to be well. After the birth, the girl learned that her sister was sick. The boy is suffering a lot. I left everything in God's hands, I hope in Him. When I saw the girl, I saw her in a bad condition. I didn't cry. Yesterday she asked me herself. She asked me; mom, when will you come? She was in severe pain, but now it seems like she has calmed down. We received a response from the Albanian embassy and it says it is a matter of hours that she will travel to Australia. I will go with my nephew, Endrin," he said.
