Iran executed a young man whom the regime accused of spying for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Mossad.
Erfan Shakourzadeh, 29, was hanged after being accused of espionage and collaborating with the US and Israel, according to Iranian state news.
Iran on Sunday rejected the US plan to end the war, with Iranian media describing the deal as equivalent to Tehran's "submission to Trump's excessive demands".
Tehran is refusing to give up enriched uranium.
White House Chief of Staff Donald Trump described the regime's response to the proposal as "totally unacceptable." The failure of the talks sent oil prices soaring and stocks plunging.
Shakourzadeh, a student at the University of Science and Technology of Iran in Tehran, was arrested in February 2025 on charges of collaborating with states considered hostile.
He was reportedly subjected to nine months of "severe physical and psychological torture in solitary confinement" in order to extract forced confessions, according to Hengaw, a human rights organization based in Norway.
Shakourzadeh claimed he was "arrested on trumped-up charges of espionage," according to a note first published by Hengaw from prison before his execution.
