A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off the northwestern coast of Cuba on Tuesday, the country's National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS) said. According to official data, the epicenter of the earthquake was located about 100 kilometers northwest of the city of Mantua, while the focal depth was estimated at 20 kilometers.

International media reported that the seismic tremors lasted for several seconds and were felt over a wide area, causing panic among residents. Many citizens came out of their homes and buildings immediately after the tremors began. “At first I thought I was going crazy. I didn’t immediately realize it was an earthquake, as I had never experienced anything like it. As soon as we realized what was happening, we immediately went outside,” said Carmen Delgado, a 47-year-old economist from Havana.

The earthquake was also felt in the southeastern United States, including the state of Florida. Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) and the German Center for Geosciences (GFZ) estimated the magnitude of the earthquake at 6.1. So far, authorities have not reported any casualties or significant material damage.
