A 35-year-old footballer has been arrested in Germany on suspicion of poisoning his teammate to death, just two weeks before his wedding.

German police arrested a footballer from amateur club TuS Rockenberg on Tuesday, September 1. The player, who goes by the name Marius, is accused of secretly giving his teammate poison during a trip to Dresden with the rest of the team.

The victim, named Filip, felt unwell during the journey. After returning home, his condition worsened and the 30-year-old's family called an ambulance. He died in hospital a day later, despite doctors' attempts to keep him alive.

An autopsy later determined that death was due to poisoning that had caused his organs to malfunction. At the time, relatives thought he might have suffered from fish poisoning, as they had eaten fish during the trip.

However, police later became suspicious of Marius. "We think this was an act of revenge," public prosecutor Thomas Hauburger told local media.

According to rumors circulating in Rokenberg, the two footballers were engaged to a woman. The accused, who is in custody, has not made any statement about the charges.
