"A sweet, smiling, very generous girl, a girl who was touched by words, who had a great love for her ex-husband. And this love kept her going, as if she lived for him. But that love was never returned, it never returned. She was a star who was born in love but extinguished in violence."

This is what Xhuana Nikolli's sister said about the young woman who ended her life by consuming photoxine after the violence inflicted by her ex-husband Eraldo Fizi.

But Xhuana's suicide under conditions of severe psychological shock carries with it a great mystery.
Even today, it is shrouded in a fog. That of many question marks over the circumstances in which the young woman ended her life.
Xhuana and Eraldo who were married on June 9, 2025. Their acquaintance that had begun in the high school benches. Xhuana who had completed her studies in law, while Eraldo had closed his cycle of studies with those of high school. A marriage that lasted only 3 months. Which is still difficult to discover what led to their crisis.

So much so that in November, Xhuana made the decision to leave her marital home in Lezha and move initially to Tirana, to one of her sisters who lived in the capital.
And then to live in a rented apartment, which she shared with a friend of hers.
A friend who, according to Marjana, Xhuana's sister, was also present in the hospital in the last moments of her life.
But no one knows what her testimony is about Xhuana's last hours.
Whether or not she was present during the violence Eraldo inflicted on Xhuana. Where was she on the evening of March 9, when Xhuana decided to end her life.

So many questions that, when answered, could shed some light on what happened to Xhuana.
Eraldo Fizi, who has been wanted since March 10, on charges of 'Domestic Violence' and 'Causing Suicide', but even as of the making of this documentary, he continues to be at large.

"My sister and mom had the last contact with the person who gave the statement about Xhuana's incident. Now we just leave it up to the authorities to question her again, how the incident happened, to confront her thoughts," says Xhuana's sister.

But one of the mysteries that remains for the investigation to uncover is how Xhuana obtained the photoxine. Whether she bought it herself at an agricultural pharmacy, or should we believe a darker scenario. That she may have been forced to consume it. Just as the veracity of the letter she left for her family should not be underestimated during the investigation. Likewise, whether that evening that Xhuana was raped by Eraldo, the latter was alone in the apartment with her, or were there other people there, who may have been his family members. Just as the security cameras in the area near the building rented by Xhuana should also be seen. Regarding the recent movements of Eraldo Fizi or other people who may have accompanied him, as well as his phone records, to see his cell phones and the areas where he moved.

Findings that could provide a clearer picture of what happened that evening when Xhuana Nikollaj decided to end her life. But also before that date. But that could also lead to a more complete clarification of the event.
Meanwhile, the forensic medical examination results showed that the cause of death was due to the consumption of photoxine, with signs of violence also found on her body.

"We don't know where she bought it, who got it. I've asked this question too and I've asked it. A young girl being sold a photoxine. It should be so easy to sell it without any kind of certification. Because there should be authorized people who buy it and who have a big business because it is used in plants, in factories. There should be a license where I should take it, how I should use it, not ordinary people. That way, many girls can easily get it. But where is our society, why is it allowed to be sold," says sister Marjana Kalaj. Xhuana's case is not only a great pain for her family, but also an alarm bell for society.

A society that still needs emancipation. And to understand that girls, mothers, women, are not anyone's property. But they must be protected from any act of violence, from anyone. Because no one deserves to lose their life to the violence of a spouse, or a family member. Meanwhile, for Xhuana's family, all that is left are her photos and memories. With which they wake up and sleep every day.

"When the four of us were together, they would laugh at each other in our backyard.
"I have always had Xhuana as a sister, not just a daughter. She lived with my son, played with him. My children have never separated from her. I don't know how to tell my children where their aunt is. Because for us it is a trauma that we don't accept, not for ourselves, and not for the children either. Just the idea of ​​who did this to her, we have no words. We sleep with Xhuana's photos. My parents can't rest easy from the idea of ​​why they took their daughter's life. Why he raped our sister. He can be very calm, he can live in another country outside Albania, years can pass, but the parent is there, why he is not paying for what he has done," the sister says.

During her story, Marjana says that Xhuana did not know violence. Because in their family, violence was a foreign word. And she never thought that she herself could be a victim of psychological and physical violence. That violence that led her to the last tragic act, to end her life. A loss that Marjana still finds difficult to believe today, who the person who caused it is.

"At that age my sister was, she had never grown up in any kind of violence in our family. We always had harmony, respect. Our parents have always sacrificed themselves for us. They deprived themselves so that Xhuana and all of us could go to school. To have a better life. Our parents never yelled at us and when I saw my sister in that state, I said 'what did she do,'" she says.

The only prayer that Marjana and her family now have is the one addressed to law enforcement authorities. A prayer related to the swift arrest of Eraldo Fizi, as the person responsible for causing the death of their loved one. And bringing him to justice. As the only consolation that can calm their souls even a little. But also of Xhuana herself, who deserves justice.

"It's such a great pain that I think more and more that this wound will never heal."
But I would also like some help from the institutions, so that Eraldo Fizi receives the punishment he deserves...
"I sincerely hope that justice will work for all women, for mothers, for wives, for all those girls who feel in difficulty. I hope they don't go to the last act, but turn to justice and get a solution and not accept any kind of violence," says Marjana.

In the end, Marjana, Xhuana's sister, addresses two words to Eraldo, who will surely watch her story through this documentary. These are two words that she would say to him in the eye if she were in front of him. And that if he were the worthy man her sister loved, he should have the same manliness not to hide, but to come forward and answer for the loss of the life of the man with whom she shared 7 years of his life.

"Why did you rape our sister? Why did you do this to her? She didn't deserve that suffering, she didn't deserve that barbaric violence. She deserved to live, to be happy. The perpetrator must be caught as soon as possible and brought to justice. We must not let things go to waste. We are afraid that Xhuana's case will be forgotten. Eraldo, wherever you hide, one day you will come out and pay for that physical violence. It must be prevented at all costs that every girl can feel her life, a happy life as she would like and not be deprived of her husband, ex-husband or another who does not leave her alone," she says.
