Increased security measures have been taken for the release of Ilir Selmanaj from the Peqin Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions (IEVP), following the decision of the Special Court of Appeal to change the security measure against him. Sources close to the penitentiary system indicate that all administrative and legal procedures have been concluded at the Peqin Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions, where Selmanaj was held in detention, while the authorities have carefully organized his transfer to his apartment, where he will serve the new security measure, "house arrest".

The decision of the Special Court of Appeals has resulted in the easing of the security measure from "prison arrest" to "house arrest", due to the expiration of the pre-trial detention periods, according to the court's assessment.

Ilir Selmanaj is one of the people accused of involvement in the sensational murder case of former State Police officer Santiago Malko. He is considered by the investigation bodies as one of the people implicated in the criminal event that shocked public opinion.

According to the indictment, the murder of Santiago Malko is suspected to have been committed by members of the criminal group known as "Duka", as part of clashes and revenge between criminal groups, also linked to the name of Ervis Martinaj.

Selmanaj's release from prison has been accompanied by special security measures, due to the high profile and sensitivity of the case. In the meantime, the court process against him continues, while the measure of "house arrest" does not change his status as a person under investigation and accused in this case.
