The fire that engulfed a large area of the forest massif and threatened to burn down several homes in the village of Lugaxhi in Labinot Mali in Elbasan has been brought under control after several hours of intense fighting. The intervention of the fire brigade and employees of other structures engaged in the field made it possible to isolate the source and neutralize the risk of further spread.
The operation was conducted in difficult conditions, due to the rugged terrain, which made it impossible for heavy vehicles to approach the area affected by the fire. For this reason, most of the operation was carried out on foot, requiring constant engagement of the officers.
To cope with the situation, 2 fire engines, with a capacity of 3 tons each, were deployed, as well as 18 firefighting forces, which intervened in the field using backpack pumps to reach areas where the vehicles could not penetrate. 25 ASHP employees also participated in the operation, who contributed to the work of isolating the fires and curbing the spread of flames.
Despite the difficult terrain and conditions created by the fire, the operational teams continued their work without interruption until the situation was brought under control. Rapid intervention was important to avoid the spread of flames to other areas with vegetation. After neutralizing the main danger, the structures on the ground continued the checks to identify and eliminate any remaining fires, aiming to prevent the reactivation of the fire.
Appeal to citizens
In conditions of high temperatures and drought, authorities are calling on citizens to be extremely careful, especially in green areas, forests, and areas with dry vegetation.
Any carelessness, including dumping flammable waste, starting fires in open spaces or other uncontrolled actions, can become a source of fire and endanger large natural areas, homes and property of citizens. Citizens who detect a fire should immediately notify the authorities, so that emergency teams can intervene as quickly as possible and avoid the spread of flames.
The work of firefighters and all structures engaged in Lugaxhi has been evaluated as an important intervention for the protection of natural wealth and community property.
