Doctor Aurora Dollenberg speaks on the show "Fundjava" News24 that Albania is facing a strong wave of viruses, with the flu affecting citizens to a much greater extent than the European average. According to her, the number of cases in the country has increased significantly, doubling compared to previous periods.
“Albania is particularly hard hit by the flu; the prevalence is 40-50%,” Dollenberg explains. She points out that children born in the last two to three years, who have not had much contact with viruses and have a weaker immune system, are more severely affected. The COVID-19 pandemic and the long isolation have weakened their immunity, making them more susceptible to seasonal illnesses.
The doctor warns that the decrease in temperatures in Albania favors the reactivation of viruses, while the lack of preventive measures in public institutions increases the risk of spread. "As a European reality, the flu has marked a large increase in cases. In Albania, this increase is even more pronounced, with a doubling of the number of cases. The duration of the viruses is greater than in other European countries. Albania is particularly affected by the flu, with a prevalence reaching 40-50%. Children born in the last 2-3 years have not had much contact with viruses and those with weaker immune systems are more severely affected by the flu. The COVID-19 pandemic has weakened immunity, making it more difficult for children to cope with diseases.
"When temperatures drop in Albania, viruses reactivate, while citizens are often unprepared to deal with them. The lack of respect for measures in public institutions also contributes to the spread of infections," Dollenberg concludes.
