Albanian agriculture is facing major challenges, where farmers survive, but the sector is not developing. In the show 'News24 Weekend', by journalist Megi Latifi, farmers and experts in the field analyzed the problems that affect farmers' production and income.

Farmer Franc Kaloshi said he lost over 150-200 euros due to floods that affected about 80 hectares of his family's agricultural land. He accuses the government of lacking real support: "Compensation? Bureaucracy and words. They set up a commission, they came and took some photos, but there are no minutes or official documents about compensation."

For his part, professor Gjokë Vuksani underlined that Albanian agriculture in the last five years has either stagnated or declined. He explains that floods and low temperatures have hit farmers, while mismanagement of water from hydroelectric power plants has caused major flooding in areas such as Lushnja, Lezha and Tale. "We also have a deterioration in the quality of the soil. Water does not come from above, but in the areas of Lushnja or Lezha, water comes from the sea or lagoons. As a result of depreciation. It happened in Tale, where as a result of the water not being discharged into the sea, the water came from below, from above. If salt water has entered the soil, it will take at least 10 years to reach the right parameters to be planted and produce. Many lands are flooded by the mismanagement of HPPs located on rivers, because they maintain quotas and do not see the lands. We need a broader view and money. We need support for the agricultural sector," said Vuksani. He added that many lands are losing quality due to the lack of a broad strategy for water management and the need for concrete support for the sector.

The situation shows that, despite government investments and declarations, farmers remain exposed to natural disasters and resource mismanagement, paying the costs of losses themselves.
