In a press conference, Arbjan Mazniku presented the SP's proposal for Territorial Reform.
During his speech, while explaining the importance of the SP proposal, he said that this territorial reform aims to strengthen municipalities.
"Municipalities are turning into institutions for economic development. With territorial reform, we aim to strengthen Municipalities," he said.
According to him, territorial changes should be approved before the 2027 local elections, so that Albania can enter the electoral process with a new administrative system and map.
He emphasized that one of the main objectives of the reform is to strengthen municipalities, through more functional and economically sustainable structures.
"Since the commission was created, its term of office has been nine months and it was known that its mandate would end in mid-July. Secondly, in May 2027, Albania will have local elections, in which we must enter with a new system and a new territorial map, in order to face the challenges that Albania faces. Part of the challenge we face is to strengthen municipalities now, to enter the next elections with municipalities with more economically capable, more functionally capable structures," he said.
We recall that the Majority has submitted to the Assembly its proposals for the new administrative-territorial division, which envisages reducing the number of municipalities to 46 from the current 61.
