Tensions in the Conference of Speakers have continued, with the opposition openly accusing the majority of destroying constitutional principles and drafting occult reforms. MPs Ina Zhupa and Gazment Bardhi have lashed out at the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi, denouncing the annihilation of local government and the deliberate blocking of the parliamentary investigation into the May 11 elections.
MP Ina Zhupa demanded the immediate withdrawal of the majority from the unilateral draft for the new administrative division, describing the entire process of public hearings as a pre-prepared “show” that contradicts international norms and the citizen’s interest. Zhupa recalled the devastating consequences of the 2014 reform, which removed power from the citizens and turned it into a central instrument of control.
"With a pre-prepared plan, you have failed the territorial reform. You put on a show and brought a draft that contradicts every norm, the interest of citizens and international standards. Everything you brought in 2014 was ruin, you took power away from the citizen. Reactivate the consensus, the reform should serve the people and not your political interests," declared Zhupa.
For his part, the chairman of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, directly confronted Niko Pelesh with his repeated refusal to implement the Constitutional Court's decision to establish an investigative commission on the May 11 elections. Bardhi revealed that for more than a month and a half he has been sending official letters to the Speaker of the Assembly without receiving any response, an unprecedented act in the history of parliamentarism.
"A month and a half ago I officially addressed you about the implementation of the Constitutional Court's decision on the investigation of the May 11 elections and I have not received any response. If the implementation of the Constitutional Court's decision turns into a challenge for your 'European' Albania, then we are heading towards Africa. It's good that you limit our constitutional instruments, but at least implement the court's decisions. What you are doing is inconceivable," Bardhi underlined.
