Lionel Messi has reacted for the first time since the end of the World Cup, sharing a touching message for fans and teammates.
The Argentina captain admitted that the failure in the final has left a great disappointment, but stressed that pride in the team's journey and successes remains intact.
"The pain is great and it will take time for this wound to heal. But I also remember all the good things. The matches we changed, giving our all, which will remain in our memories forever. The support of an entire country that, together with the hard work and efforts of this group, led us once again to be among the best in the world.
"Today it is difficult to fully appreciate what we have achieved, but this group has reached two consecutive World Cup finals. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for every greeting and message. Once again, we have managed to unite as a country and be together, sharing the great pride of being Argentine. I also want to congratulate Spain for winning the championship," Messi wrote.
