A serious incident has shocked Russia, where a teacher has died after being attacked with a knife by a 17-year-old student in the Perm region, in the Urals region. The victim, Olesya Baguta, a teacher of Russian language and literature at a school in Dobryanka, was seriously injured near the entrance to the institution where she taught. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
According to regional governor Dmitry Makhonin, the teacher was attacked by a 17-year-old teenager, who was immediately arrested by police. "Unfortunately, despite the efforts of doctors, it was not possible to save her life," Makhonin said hours after the incident.
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, the victim was also the classroom teacher of the suspected perpetrator, while the motives for the incident remain unclear. Russian authorities say this is one of several violent incidents reported at educational institutions since the beginning of the year, including other knife and gun attacks in different parts of the country.
