Strong debates have taken place at the Conference of Speakers, where the leader of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, clashed sharply with representatives of the majority, including Niko Peleshi.
During the discussions, Bardhi accused the majority of blocking institutions and protecting corruption, emphasizing that the opposition has never been against the European integration process.
"It's hard to come and slander here. There is no case of an opposition MP working against integration. But we do not become a shield for corruption," he said, also mentioning the case of Balluk, accused of major financial abuses.
He raised questions about the role of the majority in relation to justice and constitutional institutions, accusing that investigations have been obstructed and parliamentary control has been limited. According to him, international reports also highlight problems with the oversight of the executive by the Assembly. Bardhi further questioned the functioning of parliamentarism, stating that the opposition's requests for investigative committees, interpellations, motions with debate and amendments have been systematically rejected.
"It is difficult to come and slander here. There is no case of an opposition MP speaking and working against integration. But, unlike you, we do not become a shield for corruption. We say: yes, lift the immunity of the deputy prime minister accused of abuses of 1.1 billion euros. You say no! Who is hindering it and who is against the integration process? Is it the opposition or you who raise the red card against the prosecution? What does the progress report say? Parliament is hindered by the limited oversight of the executive. So, who is hindering it? We who demand parliamentary control or you who vote against control? Who does not implement the decisions of the Constitutional Court? Was it us or you? It was you who raised the red card against the Constitutional Court twice. You who steal are working for Albania, while the opposition that denounces is working against integration? You have overthrown every instrument of control. If the opposition's demands are overthrown by political hatred, this is not parliamentarism. That is why you I ask, Speaker, what is the role of the deputies, when you do not accept either investigative committees, or interpellations, or motions for debate, or amendments, or laws? What is the role of the opposition? To refresh you? Tell us what our role is. Because you tell us “let's cooperate” and “be constructive”, but when we do this, you overthrow everything.
"You, Speaker, are the guarantor of the functioning of the Assembly. You read us a speech that touched us, while today I do not find a single issue that you, as Speaker, have defended for the opposition," said Bardhi.
