Former DP MP Ervin Salianji has reacted to Sali Berisha's trip to the United States, describing it as a positive development for the DP's relations with Albania's strategic ally.

However, Salianji emphasizes that the Democratic Party continues to remain linked to the past and the battles surrounding the figure of Berisha. According to him, despite the developments in Washington, the political problem of the opposition remains in Albania, where it (the DP) must convince citizens that it can be a governing alternative.

Salianji states that Edi Rama has lost popular support, but his departure requires an opposition that offers a credible alternative to citizens. He calls on Berisha to reflect and consider resigning, arguing that this would pave the way for a change within the DP.

Salianji states that Albania needs an opposition that aims for victory and not simply political survival.

Ervin Salianj's post

Sali Berisha's trip to the United States is positive news. Any step that normalizes the relationship of an Albanian political force with Albania's strategic ally is in the interest of the country and the Democratic Party.

But we cannot pretend that the political problem that has weighed on the DP for years does not exist. Non grata for corruption is a stain that does not weigh only on an individual. It has weighed on an entire party, on the opposition and on its ability to present itself as a governing alternative. The trip today shows a great paradox, Berisha can travel to the United States, but he cannot travel politically in Albania.

He can't convince Fier to organize a meeting, he doesn't visit it and can't win Shkodra, he can't organize a meeting and can't ignite Vlora, he can't hold a meeting in Berat and he is non grata by the protesters in Tirana.

Above all, it cannot convince the majority of Albanians that it is the solution for the future.

This is why, despite any good news that may come from Washington, the DP's problem remains in Tirana.

Edi Rama does not leave by repeating the past. He leaves by building an alternative that Albanians believe can replace it, and today, the biggest obstacle to this alternative is the fact that the DP continues to be held hostage to a battle for the past, instead of building the battle for the future.

Therefore, perhaps this trip is an opportunity, an opportunity for Sali Berisha, away from the daily noise, to reflect on what they will ask of him, his resignation!

To understand that his story cannot forever be the story of the Democratic Party.

To understand that a party cannot be a hostage to an individual and to understand that a dignified resignation is not a personal loss, but can be the last great political contribution to Albania and the DP.

If Berisha truly loves the Democratic Party and has the public interest first, he must give the Democratic Party what he has not been able to give it so far: the opportunity to win.

Because Albania needs an opposition that wins, not an opposition that just survives.

The time for change is now! Edi Rama has lost popular support, citizens are waiting for the opposition to change to remove Rama an hour ago!
