Anniversary of the canonization of the Albanian Nobel laureate, Saint Mother Teresa

Dear friends,

Today is a significant day for the Albanian nation and for the entire Christian world. Today we remember the anniversary of the canonization of the most prominent daughter of the Albanian nation, Mother Teresa.

On September 5, 2016, in St. Peter's Square in Rome, Pope Francis declared Mother Teresa of Calcutta a saint, the Albanian woman who, with her life, work, and love for the poor and the helpless, became one of the greatest figures of humanity.

On that historic day, Pope Francis described Mother Teresa as a "distributor of divine mercy," honoring through her a life completely dedicated to humanity, especially to those who had nothing left except the need for an outstretched hand and a heart to love them.

For us Albanians, the canonization of Mother Teresa was an extraordinary honor. It was the crowning of a rare life, but also a magnificent testimony to the values that Albanians have been able to give to humanity.

She was born Albanian, became a citizen of the world and remained a proud daughter of her nation until the end.

With humility, admiration and pride, we remember today Saint Mother Teresa, the woman who dedicated her life to the poorest, the sick, the abandoned and the suffering; the woman who gave hope, dignity and love to millions of people.

Mother Teresa is one of the brightest proofs that the greatness of a nation is not measured only by its power or wealth, but by the values, love, and humanity it bestows on humanity.

Eternal glory to the memory of Saint Mother Teresa, the great daughter of the Albanian nation!
