Brad Pitt has taken another blow to his relationship with his children, after his eldest son, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, filed an official request to remove the surname "Pitt" from his name.

The 24-year-old, who was adopted by Angelina Jolie in 2002 from Cambodia, is asking for his name to be changed to Maddox Chivan Jolie. According to the Daily Mail, Maddox had stopped using his father's surname in February, and has now decided to officially change it for "personal reasons," without giving further details.

The move follows similar moves by the former celebrity couple's other children. In 2025, Shiloh Jolie also legally changed her last name, dropping "Pitt." Meanwhile, Zahara Jolie and Vivienne Jolie publicly use only the Jolie surname, although without an official legal change. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie married in 2014, but their divorce was finalized in 2019, following an incident on a private jet in 2016 and allegations of abuse.

In a 2022 lawsuit filed with the FBI, Angelina Jolie alleged that during the flight, Brad Pitt argued with Maddox and was verbally and physically abusive to the family. The actor has denied the allegations, and federal authorities have not filed criminal charges against him. The couple have six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox.
