Rumer Willis, daughter of famous actor Bruce Willis, has spoken emotionally about daily life with her father, who has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), showing the importance of making the most of every moment spent together.
In an interview with People, the 38-year-old actress described dementia as a "mystery" and an unpredictable challenge, as the course of the disease varies from one person to another.
Despite the difficulties, Rumer said her father is doing well given the circumstances. She said that when she visits him with her three-year-old daughter, Louetta, seeing Bruce Willis smile is one of her most treasured moments.
According to her, these moments remind her that even in the face of illness, love, joy, and family connection continue to be present.
"I'm so grateful to have spent this time with him, for however many years," Rumer said, also appreciating the support and unity of her family.
The experience with her father has also made the actress more careful about her health. As part of her collaboration with Function, she also underwent APOE genetic testing to better understand her risk for Alzheimer's disease.
Rumer explained that the main motivation for taking care of her health is the desire to be around her daughter for as many years as possible.
For him, information, prevention, and early health care have now become an important part of the effort to stay as active and healthy as possible.
