White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt will leave her post at the end of the month, US President Donald Trump has announced.
Trump announced the decision through a post on the social network Truth Social, stating that Leavitt would be leaving the position to devote more time to her family.
"Caroline will now be one of my top foreign advisors and an influential voice within the Republican Party," Trump said.
Leavitt, who is one of the closest officials to the Trump administration, has served as the White House's chief spokeswoman. She has been a key figure in communicating the US administration's policies and positions.
Her resignation is expected to take effect at the end of August.
Who is Caroline Leavitt?
Caroline Leavitt took office in January 2025, at the age of 27, at the beginning of Donald Trump's second term, making history as the youngest White House press secretary.
Leavitt recently returned from parental leave after giving birth to her second child, a daughter, in May. She is also the mother of a 2-year-old son.
Initially interested in journalism, Leavitt quickly gravitated toward politics. She began her career in the White House during Trump's first term, where she worked in the press office under then-spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany.
After Trump's loss in the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden, Leavitt worked in the office of Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, one of Trump's most vocal supporters in the Republican Party.
In 2022, she ran for a seat in the House of Representatives, but failed to win the election.
Leavitt then worked as a spokeswoman for MAGA Inc. before joining his 2024 presidential campaign, which ended with Trump returning to the White House.
