Former DP MP Ervin Salianji delivered a message on Europe Day, May 9, emphasizing that "democracy and change are fundamental values of the European project."
In his reaction, Salianji also issued a direct message to the leader of the DP, Sali Berisha, who he states has been at the helm of the party for 36 years and does not respect democratic decision-making norms.
According to Salianj, the Democratic Party cannot represent the expectations of Albanians for European integration without a new spirit and without a real change in leadership.
"Europe Day is not just a symbol, it is a call for change. The Democratic Party must represent this expectation of the Albanian people. But it can never do this by having the same leader at the helm for 36 years, who does not respect any democratic norms. The Europe we believe in is that of freedom, democracy, the rule of law and decision-making by citizens," says Salianji.

Happy May 9, Europe Day
In a dark time for humanity, after the destruction left behind by totalitarian systems, the founding fathers of the United Europe decided that democracy and the rule of law are the only guarantees that societies can change and develop in peace.
Democracy is exactly that: a system through which power can be relinquished and change is made possible.
Democracy is not perfect, but it is the only value system against autocrats.
Today, when an entire generation in Albania seeks to close a long transition and lead the country towards European integration, we still face attempts to close internal spaces, to return to personal interests, and to resist change.
But Europe Day is not just a symbol, it is a call for change.
The Democratic Party must represent this expectation of the Albanian people. But it can never do this while having the same leader at the helm for 36 years, who does not respect any democratic norms.
The Europe we believe in is one of freedom, democracy, the rule of law, and decision-making by citizens.
These are the principles upon which the European political family is built and which should guide every political force that aims to be part of it.
Today, more than ever, Albania needs a new spirit and a generation that believes in these values and seeks to turn them into reality.
Change is not just a need. It is a European obligation.
Only in this way will the DP become a winner.
Happy Europe Day.
