The chaos caused in the Africa Cup of Nations final could not pass in silence, this is because the Senegal-Morocco challenge produced everything, withdrawals from the field, fights between fans, attempts to invade the field and many other unsportsmanlike details that undermined the image of African football. In such conditions, a reaction from FIFA could not be missing, with the latter punishing some of the main protagonists of this final.

The one who suffered the most was Senegal coach Pape Thiaw, who was the main initiator of asking the players to leave the field when the referee awarded a penalty in favor of Morocco. The Senegal coach was sentenced to a 5-match suspension, plus a $100 fine.

Two Senegalese players, Ndiaye and Sarr, were also suspended for two matches. The Senegalese Federation was also fined $615. Two Moroccan players, Achraf Hakimi and Saibarie, were suspended for two matches.

These penalties will be valid in the next Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
