A shocking case from the United States of America has ended with the maximum sentence for a Utah woman, who was found guilty of murdering her husband by poisoning him with fentanyl, as well as a number of other criminal offenses.

Cory Richins was sentenced to life in prison without parole after a jury found her guilty of killing her husband in 2022. According to the investigation, she laced his drink with fentanyl, causing his death in their apartment near the Park City area. Prosecutors said the motive was related to financial problems, including large debts and life insurance policies in the victim's name.

The court also heard that she had benefited from her husband's life insurance policy, which was worth millions of dollars, while the defendant's extramarital affairs were also revealed during the trial. During sentencing, Judge Richard Mrazik said that the crime made the defendant "too dangerous to ever be released."

In an emotional statement to the court, Richins addressed her children, expressing her condolences and saying she would always be there for them when they were ready to talk to her. The case became even more controversial after she had previously published a children's book titled "Are You With Me?", which was supposed to help minors cope with the loss of a parent, dedicated specifically to her husband.

Prosecutors also revealed that the woman had also been found guilty of attempted murder in a previous incident, in which she tried to poison her husband through food. Richins was arrested in 2023, just months after the publication of her book, which was initially promoted as a message of comfort for families dealing with the loss of a loved one.
