The citizens of Maliq have expressed their opposition to the proposal for territorial reorganization and the merger of the Municipality of Maliq with Korça.

According to a source inside the meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama, the participants opposed the merger, demanding that Maliqi continue to function as a separate municipality.

"Don't dissolve it", "We are against it", "Will the mayor violate all the places and villages?", "Change the decision, don't dissolve Maliqi", were some of the concerns conveyed during the meeting.

The source indicates that the opposition has been expressed by various citizens, administration employees, but also representatives of the agricultural sector, who have raised concerns about the Maliqi field area and its problems.

According to the same source, it was claimed at the meeting that around 97 percent of citizens are against the merger of the Municipality of Maliq.

Meanwhile, during the discussion, Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that the situation in Korça and Maliq is different, saying that the people of Korça do not oppose the unification, while the residents of Maliq are concerned and dissatisfied with the proposal.

Rama said during the meeting that the territorial reform will continue, with the municipalities of Kolonja and Devoll expected to merge in a few years.
