The political crisis within the Republican People's Party (CHP), Turkey's main opposition party, has escalated significantly after a court ruling restored Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to its leadership. According to the ruling, the party's last congress was declared invalid, thus overturning the election of current leader Özgür Özel. The development has created an unusual situation where the party finds itself divided between two leading figures.

Özel's supporters have accused political interference in the decision, implying that behind this lies the influence of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who, according to them, would prefer an electoral confrontation with Kılıçdaroğlu in the upcoming elections, having defeated him previously.

Tensions escalated in Ankara, where MPs and party officials gathered at the CHP headquarters. Turkish media reports speak of violent clashes and police intervention with tear gas and rubber bullets, while security forces surrounded the building.

On the other hand, opposition-affiliated media, such as "Cumhuriyet", reported on mutual accusations between the two camps within the party, even holding Kılıçdaroğlu responsible for escalating the situation.

According to reports, some deputies close to Özel have condemned the police intervention and have called for an urgent convening of a new congress to resolve the leadership crisis. Meanwhile, Kılıçdaroğlu, who is following developments from afar, has not yet made it clear whether he will call a new congress, while his supporters warn of disciplinary measures against internal opponents. The situation remains tense, with the Turkish opposition involved in one of its most serious internal crises in recent years.
