Three coordinated arson attacks took place in the early hours of Wednesday in Thessaloniki, targeting the homes of three leaders of the Greek New Democracy (ND) party. Five people were injured, while a 70-year-old woman is in serious condition.

According to Greek authorities, the targets of the attacks were the homes of the chairman of the ND Steering Committee in Thessaloniki, Zisis Ioakeimovic, former MP Savvas Anastasiadis and politician Aphrodite Nestora. It is suspected that the perpetrators were travelling on motorbikes and carried out the attacks in less than 20 minutes.

The most serious incident occurred in the Harilaou area at around 04:35, where a fire caused by a gas cylinder spread to two vehicles and two motorcycles. One of the cars belonged to Aphrodite Nestora.

Nestora's 70-year-old mother suffered severe burns all over her body and is being treated intubated in the intensive care unit of Ippokrateio Hospital. The politician herself suffered minor burns to her limbs, while her father and two other residents of the building were taken to the hospital with breathing problems.

A few minutes earlier, in the Tumba area, another gas cylinder exploded at the entrance to the building where former MP Savvas Anastasiadis lives. The explosion caused material damage to the entrance of the building, but there were no injuries.

The first attack was recorded in Pylaia, where a gas canister was placed and activated near a residence previously occupied by Zisis Ioakeimovic. No damage was reported in this case.

Investigations into the three incidents have been taken over by the Greek Anti-Terrorism Service, which is examining the possibility that the attacks were part of an organized and coordinated plan against New Democracy leaders.
