A large and coordinated sabotage attack hit the railway infrastructure in the Netherlands on Tuesday morning, with more than 20 locations affected. According to reports, the perpetrators deliberately placed large metal pipes, about two meters long, on the tracks. The action caused damage to the track circuit system and railway safety systems.
The interference caused the network's computer systems to incorrectly record that the tracks were blocked, affecting the normal operation of the lines.
Among the affected lines are Amersfoort–Zwolle, Zwolle–Leeuwarden, Utrecht–Arnhem, Arnhem–Zutphen, Amersfoort–Deventer and Gouda–Oudewater. The scale of the incident and the coordination of actions at several points have raised strong concerns about the safety of the country's railway infrastructure.
