Monika Kryemadhi's lawyer, Redi Llanaj, has filed objections to the charges brought by SPAK against the former MP in court, claiming that the case has no criminal basis and that the investigation is politically motivated. During the hearing, Llanaj stated that SPAK itself has admitted that the purchase of the villa is not related to corruption.
"SPAK itself admits that there is no corruption in the purchase of the villa. This issue is not legal, but political. There is no criminal fact here. The prosecutor has become a tool," the lawyer said.
The statement brought the intervention of Judge Erion Bani, who asked the lawyer to maintain the solemnity of the session and avoid terms that could violate the institution of justice.
Llanaj responded that the word “tool” was not offensive, but meant “instrument”. Next, the defense requested a new accounting expert report on the income of the couple Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi over the years, opposing the expertise used by SPAK. According to the lawyer, the current expertise is biased and should be considered invalid.
"We have presented an expert report that opposes this act. This is the moment to appoint an independent expert or a group of experts, as this is a matter of essential evidence," Llanaj declared.
The defense also requested the questioning of Adrian Shatku via registered letter, claiming that his testimony could clarify Kryemadhi's role in an agreement with his company UNIFI and a telephone company.
The lawyer said that Shatku can clarify how she met Kryemadhi, how the contract with Vodafone began and whether the former MP had the authority to negotiate such an agreement. According to SPAK, Adrian Shatku wanted the company UNIFI to enter into an international interconnection contract with a mobile company.
The prosecution claims that communications found on Monika Kryemadhi's phone show that she and Ilir Meta were engaged to help in the realization of this agreement. The file mentions communications with executives of a telephone company and conversations with Shatku about the development of negotiations. Precisely for this reason, the defense also requested the testimony of a South African citizen, who, according to the lawyer, can clarify whether Kryemadhi had a real role in this process.
Also, Redi Llanaj requested that several other people be questioned in the process, including Esmeralda Shkjau, Vali Bizhga, Prime Minister Edi Rama, former Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri, as well as MPs who have proposed changes to Law No. 134/2014.
The defense claims that this evidence is necessary to clarify the circumstances of the case and to refute the claims raised by SPAK.
