This Thursday on the show "This Week", on "News24" with moderator Nisida Tufa, former MP Dashamir Shehi spoke about the December movement, also touching on the current situation in the Democratic Party.
During the interview, Shehi said that to this day, it has not been possible to build a democratic state with independent institutions, adding that he still sees the situation as a very long transition.
"We have reached freedom, we have not achieved democracy to this day. To build a democratic state with independent institutions, we are still in transition. A very long transition. But economically we can say that Albania has changed, but if we are to build independent democratic institutions, then I say that we are very far behind. If we talk about the health system, there are wonderful parts, but the basic system is not. If we were to go back, we would do many things differently. The main thing is the separation of powers. To be independent. The results are what they are. In a country like Albania in the '90s, the majority were poor, the majority were uneducated, the majority were rural and democracy is an urban product. So the three basic elements were from the opposite side of democracy. So how would a democracy like the West be produced...", said Shehi.
