Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has made support for citizens in the face of rising energy and fuel costs a government focus. During the meeting with the President of the Republic, Mitsotakis warned that a difficult winter awaits Greece, in a period of high geopolitical tensions and pressures on energy markets.

Heating oil, especially for households in Northern Greece, is one of the government's top priorities. Mitsotakis announced a double intervention, with a subsidy at the pump and a horizontal increase in heating aid, while saying that support for oil will also continue.

But the Greek Prime Minister's commitment does not stop at domestic measures. Mitsotakis said he will urgently raise the issue of the Special Consumption Tax on fuel at the European level, seeking a common solution to ease the cost of fuel.

According to him, a temporary reduction in the fiscal burden could be achieved through a European exemption from fossil fuel taxation. “Europe must stand by its citizens,” Mitsotakis stressed. The Greek prime minister also stated that the country’s economy remains protected from market pressures, highlighting fiscal discipline, economic growth and the reduction of public debt as factors that give the government room to support citizens during the difficult months ahead.
