A drone attack has hit a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank owned and operated by the United States in Damietta, Egypt.

According to security sources, at least two drones were involved in the attack, while other reports indicate that fires were caused on two ships.

The floating tanker flies the flag of the Marshall Islands and the incident constitutes an unusual attack on Egyptian energy facilities near the Mediterranean Sea.

Authorities report that the affected ships have left the area and operations at the LNG facilities are expected to resume after the necessary verifications. No further details have been released on the perpetrators of the attack or the damage caused.
