A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia on August 10, causing hundreds of deaths and injuries, according to the latest data. Search and rescue operations continue in the affected areas, while authorities are assessing the damage caused.
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania has announced that it is closely following the situation and, through the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Brazil, which also covers Colombia, is in contact with the Colombian authorities.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so far there are no reports of Albanian citizens dead or injured from the earthquake.
The Ministry also announces that, based on the information collected to date, no damage has been reported in penitentiary institutions where Albanian citizens serving sentences in Colombia or awaiting extradition procedures are held.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Brazil continue to communicate with the Colombian authorities and verify information on the situation of Albanian citizens," the announcement states.
Meanwhile, the earthquake toll remains under update, while emergency teams continue operations in the most affected areas.
Albanian citizens who are in Colombia and need consular assistance as a result of the earthquake can contact the emergency number of the Albanian Embassy in Brazil.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs is following the situation following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10, 2026, with an epicenter near San José del Palmar, in the western part of Colombia.
According to the latest reported data, the earthquake has caused 254 fatalities and over 570 injured people. Search and rescue operations and damage assessment continue in the affected areas, while the balance remains under update.
