Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo announced that the number of confirmed Ebola cases has reached 710, after registering 21 new cases over the past 24 hours.
According to official data, so far 149 people have lost their lives as a result of the disease, while health authorities are continuing efforts to limit the spread of the virus.
A day earlier, the World Health Organization warned that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is continuing to expand, with the number of cases increasing and the spread of the infection to new geographic areas.
The WHO stressed that responding to the epidemic remains particularly difficult due to health system weaknesses and security challenges in the country.
However, the organization noted that Congolese authorities have considerable experience in managing Ebola outbreaks, especially in the regions currently being affected.
Ebola is a highly contagious viral disease that is transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people. Previous outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo have killed thousands, making the country one of the most affected areas in the world.
Authorities and international organizations are closely monitoring the situation, while efforts to identify cases, trace contacts, and vaccinate in affected areas continue with intensity.
