Prime Minister Edi Rama insists that the resort in Zvërnec is a blessing for Albania. In an interview with Al Jazeera, commenting on the protests that have been taking place for nine days in front of the Prime Minister's Office and Edi Rama's resignation being demanded by thousands of citizens every evening in front of his office, he says that "there has never been a question whether this investment would go ahead or not."

"There was never any question about whether this project would move forward or not. This is a blessing for the country. An investment of 4 billion euros in a country that has a Gross Domestic Product of around 27 billion euros or so, speaks for itself," Rama said.

To the accusations that he sold Albania, Rama responds that this is not a public land that the government is giving or selling, but a private property. He also emphasizes that the government has no connection with this project. Rama adds that the project is a totally private investment by the two Arab Al-Khayyat brothers, which amounts to 4 billion dollars.

"Regarding the project that has caused all this reaction and controversy around the world, it is about private property. It is not about public land that the Albanian government is giving away by selling the land. It is private property. It is an expression of interest based on a private agreement between private parties, in which the Albanian government has no role," Rama told Al Jazeera.

Meanwhile, in another interview with Reuters, Prime Minister Edi Rama made it clear that "the project will not be canceled" and according to him, "part of the resort could be opened to the public before the end of this decade."
