Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke on the phone with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pesekian about the rising tension following Iran's ballistic missile launch against Turkey.
During the phone conversation, Pesekian proposed the creation of a joint investigative team for the incident.
According to Iranian sources, "Pezheskian proposed the creation of a joint investigative team regarding the ballistic missiles launched by Iran and neutralized in Turkish airspace."
During a dinner hosted by Turkey for foreign ambassadors, including the Greek press, Erdogan stressed the need to immediately end the war before it spreads further into the Middle East, citing tensions with Iran, civilian casualties and threats to regional stability.
The Turkish president stressed that Ankara is closely monitoring the situation, has conveyed clear warnings to the Iranian side, and is making every effort to reduce tensions through dialogue.
"In parallel with the missile and drone attacks from Iran, tension escalated and in a short period of time reached levels that threaten the stability of the entire region," said the Turkish president, during an iftar dinner he hosted for foreign ambassadors, including the Greek ambassador to Ankara, Mr. Theodoros Bizakis.
"With retaliations from both sides, we see that both the loss of life and destruction, as well as the economic cost of the crisis, are growing asymmetrically. It is a fact that, as the war drags on, the situation will unfortunately worsen. In particular, the cost of engaging in new adventures will not only be paid by the warring parties, but also by our entire region, and even by the entire world, including Europe and Asia," he stressed.
