Analyst Ergys Mërtiri, invited to News24, commented on the hearing in the US Senate of Eric Wendt, proposed by President Donald Trump for the position of ambassador to Albania.
Mërtiri focused on Wendt's statements about SPAK, describing them as a reaffirmation of American support for the new justice institutions in the country.
"Albanian politics is at war with the new justice institutions. I saw Wendt's statements as a reconfirmation of the US position towards Albania," said Mërtiri.
According to him, the United States prioritizes strengthening justice institutions, which, according to the analyst, were established to change the way Albanian politics functions and guarantee the country's stability.
"The US has prioritized the new justice institutions that they have established to change Albanian politics, perhaps not only in the interest of Albania, but also to guarantee its stability," he declared.
Mertiri also emphasized that US attention in Albania remains focused on the work of SPAK and the fight against corruption and organized crime.
"I think that SPAK's work will continue and that is where the US's attention in Albania is focused," the analyst said.
He added that the fight against corruption and market capture by criminal groups will also directly impact the improvement of the business climate in the country.
"The business climate will improve from the fight against the capture of markets by crime and corruption," concluded Mërtiri.
