Businessman and protester Erlind Xhindi, invited to the studio News24, spoke about the latest developments surrounding the national protest that has been ongoing for more than 70 consecutive days against Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government cabinet.
During his speech, Xhindi underlined that civic resistance has moved to another dimension and that the steps recently taken by the prime minister have turned against the government itself.
"A lot of pressure was exerted during this movement, it is now a movement, not a protest. Rama tested it with the letters he sent to the mayors whose municipalities are at risk of being merged, but it was an own goal by Rama. This backfired."
The businessman further focused on the political stance of the Prime Minister, emphasizing that his strength is only an illusion and that the end of this government is near:
"Rama has no chance of going to the elections, he's been gone since September. Rama is characterized by stubbornness, but it's not based on strength. It's artificial."
In conclusion, Xhindi praised the reaction of citizens and administration employees in municipalities at risk of merger, describing their movement as an act of patriotism:
"The municipalities that are at risk of being merged showed that they are patriots who rose up in protest and set the administration in these municipalities in motion, among them publicly resigning."
