Around 12.4 thousand Albanians were refused entry to one of the European Union countries in 2025, according to data published by Eurostat.

Albanian citizens are the second in Europe for the highest number of refusals of entry, only behind Ukraine with 27 thousand refusals, a country where citizens flee war and moreover has about 40 inhabitants, much more than the 2.4 million inhabitants who remain in Albania.

According to Eurostat data, the largest refusals for Albanian citizens were by air (5,780), followed by land (5,500) and fewer by sea (1,150).

The countries that have rejected us the most are Italy (3220), followed by Greece (2670). In third place is Croatia with 1580 rejections, followed by Ireland, with 1280 rejections, 990 in Hungary, 775 in Germany, 225 in Slovenia, 125 in the Netherlands, 120 in Austria, 28 in Malta.

According to Eurostat, in 2025, 132,600 third-country nationals were refused entry to the EU at one of its external borders, an increase of 7.1% compared to 2024.

The highest number of refusals was recorded in Poland (28,960, or 21.8% of the EU total), followed by France (12,210, or 9.2%), Croatia (12,090, or 9.1%) and Spain (10,610, or 8.0%).

In 2025, the highest number of third-country nationals refused entry to the EU was recorded for Ukrainians (26,975), followed by Albanians (12,430), Moldovans (11,660), Colombians (6,565), Turks (5,635) and Serbians (5,440), most of them from countries sharing land borders with the EU.

At the EU level, the highest number of refusals of Albanian citizens was reported at air borders, while the vast majority of refusals for Ukrainian and Moldovan citizens were recorded at land borders./Monitor
