The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, on the occasion of May 9 - Europe Day, sent a message to the citizens of North Macedonia.

He stated that Macedonia's future lies in the European Union and that great efforts are being made in this direction to make this vision a reality.

In his speech to the citizens of North Macedonia, Kosta called for the country to take the next step forward, alluding to the implementation of constitutional changes.

“Honorable citizens of North Macedonia, today I address you as future members of the European Union. On Europe Day we celebrate our common European project – the moment when the founding countries chose unity over division and cooperation over conflict. They decided to build a future based on peace, freedom and prosperity on the ashes of the Second World War.
"Your country has been a candidate for membership in the European Union for many years now. It is time to take the next step forward. Together we will build a common European future. Long live Europe," Costa declared.
