WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has warned that Europe is facing an alarming increase in temperatures, which are rising about twice as fast as the global average.

In a post on the X platform, Tedros stressed that climate change is significantly increasing the likelihood and intensity of extreme heat waves, calling for faster and more decisive action to protect the climate.

"The data is clear: temperatures across Europe are rising at roughly twice the global average, increasing the likelihood and severity of extreme heat waves in the future," he wrote.

The head of the WHO stressed that there is no more time for delays in confronting the climate crisis, calling for urgent measures to reduce emissions and protect the population from the consequences of extreme weather.
