A tragic incident has shaken the Smyrna area community, where a 49-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the death of his 10-year-old daughter. According to authorities, Badara Kone was arrested on May 28 after police raided the family's home around 2 a.m. Inside the home, officers found his 10-year-old daughter, Fatima Kone, dead in her bedroom. The Delaware Police Homicide Division's investigation indicates that the day before, on May 27, the father allegedly hit his daughter several times with a leather belt, claiming he was disciplining her. Authorities say that after the violence, the minor fell to the ground and hit her head on a piece of furniture, suffering serious injuries.

According to investigative documents, her brothers, ages 11 and 15, carried the girl to the bedroom. However, despite her serious condition, emergency services were not immediately notified and the call to 911 was made only after a significant delay.

During the investigation, the family's two sons underwent medical examinations at a local hospital. According to authorities, the evidence collected suggests that they may have been victims of ongoing physical abuse. Initially, the 49-year-old faced charges of ongoing child abuse and several other charges of child abuse. But on June 1, after the Delaware Medical Examiner's Office report classified Fatima's death as a homicide caused by multiple blunt force trauma, he was also charged with homicide by abuse or neglect of a minor.

Currently, Badara Kone is being held in custody, while the court has increased the amount of bail to 180 thousand dollars. The event has shocked neighbors, who express surprise at the accusations. Residents of the area said that the family had moved to the neighborhood a little over a year ago and had not noticed signs that could warn of such a tragedy. "I have lived here for 12 years and we have never experienced anything like this. It is disturbing to think that such an event happened so close to us," one of the neighbors told local media.
