Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi has addressed the Venice Commission with a request to obtain its opinion on the draft law 'on the financing of political parties'.
The journalist of News24, Ergys Gjençaj has provided for News24, the request of the Speaker of the Parliament, in which he requested the assessment of the Venice Commission regarding this draft law, which aims to regulate the legal framework for the financing of political entities in Albania.
The draft opinion is expected to be discussed and adopted at the 147th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission, to be held on 12–13 June 2026.

Subject: Request for opinion on the draft law "On the Financing of Political Parties"
Dear Madam President,
On behalf of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania and in my capacity as Speaker of the Assembly, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the continuous and valuable contribution of the Venice Commission to strengthening democratic institutions, consolidating the rule of law and advancing electoral processes in the Republic of Albania. The Commission’s expertise and guidance have been and continue to be essential to ensure that legal reforms are in line with international standards and best practices.
In the framework of our ongoing cooperation and in continuation of the work of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reform, mandated to propose the necessary legal amendments in the field of electoral reform, I would like to inform you that the Committee has prepared the draft law entitled “On Financing of Political Parties”. This draft law aims to address the recommendations set out in the OSCE/ODIHR reports, while also incorporating international standards and best practices in the field of transparency, oversight and regulation of political party financing.
In this context, I have the honour to forward to you the above-mentioned draft law and kindly invite the Venice Commission to provide its opinion. We would greatly appreciate any comments, recommendations or observations that you may consider appropriate. Your contribution would be particularly important for further improving the draft law and ensuring its full compliance with international standards and best practices.
