A large fire broke out on Friday morning in an apartment on the 11th floor of a 21-story building in Berlin's Friedrichshain district, leaving five people injured.
According to the German news agency DPA, the fire was brought under control after about three hours.
The situation was particularly dangerous due to the height of the building. One of the residents, in an attempt to escape the flames, was forced to jump out of a window. Firefighters managed to rescue him, while a fire service spokesman described the situation as terrifying.
Emergency crews evacuated all occupants of the building, while five injured people were transported to a local hospital. There is no immediate information on their condition.
The cause of the fire remains unclear. German authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.
