A fire of considerable proportions broke out on the afternoon of August 14 in the village of Paulesh in the Pajova Administrative Unit, in the Municipality of Peqin, including the Paulesh–Vidhasasgjel area, in the village of Vidhasasgjel.
The flames appeared around 15:00 and were brought under control at 17:50, after an intervention by firefighting forces from several municipalities, with the largest presence coming from Elbasan, Cerrik, Belshi and Rrogozhina.
According to the fire service, the fire has spread over an area of about 3 hectares, where there were olive groves, forests, thorns and wild vegetation. The flames have burned over 2 hectares, mainly olive groves and grass.
22 firefighting forces were deployed in the firefighting operation, while 4 police forces also assisted on the ground. Several residents of the area also participated in the efforts to isolate the flames.
To cope with the situation, the assistance of firefighting structures from Elbasan, Cerrik, Belshi and Rrogozhina was requested, which contributed to neutralizing the fire sources and preventing further spread.
According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire is suspected to be intentional. Until the end of the intervention, there are no reports of any persons detained in connection with the incident.
There was no need for emergency medical intervention and no injuries were reported.
Authorities are expected to continue verifications to fully determine the circumstances and responsibilities related to the fire.
