British police have launched a murder investigation after the death of former Conservative minister Anne Widdecombe, who was found with serious head injuries in her Devon flat.
According to authorities, officers arrived at the 78-year-old's home in Haytor, Dartmoor, after the ambulance service alerted police. Upon arrival, the former minister was found with serious injuries and was later confirmed dead.
Her death was initially announced on Friday by her agent, with no indication that it was the result of a criminal act. However, just hours later, Devon and Cornwall Police announced that the case was now being treated as a homicide.
Investigators have announced that they are looking for a white man, who is suspected of being involved in the incident.
The head of the investigation stated that the case is still in the early stages, but investigations are progressing at a rapid pace.
"The investigation into the murder is in its early stages, but is progressing at a considerable pace. We have committed all necessary resources to determine exactly what happened and to identify the person responsible," she said.
Police have called on citizens who have information, even if they consider it insignificant, to contact authorities.
Investigators are particularly looking for witnesses who may have noticed suspicious movement in the Haytor Vale area, as well as footage from security cameras, doorbell cameras or vehicle cameras.
Meanwhile, forensic experts continue to examine Anne Widdecombe's apartment, which remains surrounded by police forces.
